Lyon, Louise Sophie (Sobol)

Mrs. Louise S. Lyon, 83, of Lansing, NY passed away peacefully on October 19, 2018 after a short illness.

Known to her family and friends as “Lena,” Louise was born on October 26, 1934 to Anna Mary Pudelka and Julius Sobol Sr. She and her 13 brothers and sisters were raised on a family farm in Lansing, NY. She graduated from Lansing High School and worked for a time as a seamstress before beginning her family.

Louise was a warm, high-spirited woman who enjoyed being useful to others, and was never one to idle. She was a devoted mother and wife who took great pride in raising her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored her for all her love and encouragement and for the active role she took in their lives. A gifted gardener, Louise could coax even the frailest flowers into bloom. Louise will be terribly missed by her family, especially at the holidays, as she was a wonderful cook who made every meal a special occasion.

Louise was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Earl and her beloved son, Alan, as well as several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children Stephen Lyon (Marcia W.), Michelle Aston (Timothy), Melanie Lovelace (Duane), and Marcia Littleton; her grandchildren Jessica (Steven), Joseph (Valerie), Casey, Bryce, Jayde, and Heaven; and her great-grandchildren Kaleb, Oberon, Mason, and Leena. Louise is also survived by her brother Julius (Charlotte), sister Elizabeth (Peter), and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green Street, Ithaca, NY followed by a private family interment at Calvary Cemetery.
