Ithaca: Louise Cassaniti, age 94, passed away on September 2, 2012 at Beechtree Care Center with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Frank Cassaniti. Louise was born in Harlem, NY on October 26, 1917. She is the daughter of the late Louis and Caroline Iorio. Louise and her husband Frank moved from Harlem and purchased a house in Ithaca in 1947. With their 6 sons they made it into a wonderful home. She was dedicated to her family of whom she was most proud. She had a passion for cooking and those entering her home were immediately offered food and hospitality. Louise was a waitress for 35 wonderful years at the Valley House Restaurant. Louise was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the choir. She and her late sister Carmela Petito and friends enjoyed working the fun and delicious Belly Buster Booth at the Church festival. In addition to serving her community, Louise participated in many Greater Ithaca Activity Center (GIAC) activities which brought her much enjoyment. Louise is predeceased by her husband, Frank; five sisters and two brothers. Louise is survived by her six sons and four daughters-in-law, Joseph (Jacqueline), Louis (Kathy), Tony, Frank (Gabriella), William, Richard (JoanMarie). She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Renee, Jocelyn (Ivan) Ascott, Louis, Julie, Jamie (Allan) Chadwick, Jarret, Frank (Krista), and Alexandria. She is also survived by three great-grandsons whom she loved dearly, Dillon and Owen Chadwick and Valentin Ascott. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY. Calling hours will be held on September 5th from 4-6 p.m. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 6th, at Immaculate Conception Church; burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the American Cancer Society, Immaculate Conception School or GIAC.
