Lois V. Hall

August 25, 1931 — February 15, 2020

Lois V. Newman Hall of Ithaca passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Cayuga Medical Center.

She was predeceased by her husband, F. Rupert Hall of 60 years. Born at home in Avoca on 8/25/31, she was the 7th of 10 children of Alice Celecta Beyea Newman and Andrew J. Newman. After the death of her Mother, Lois spent three years in the care of the Davenport Home for girls while attending school at Haverling in Bath. Lois moved to Penn Yan before her senior year and graduated from Penn Yan Academy.

After graduation she married Rupert and they started raising a family. After the birth of their 3rd child in 1961 they moved to Ithaca where they raised all three of their children.

Lois was a devoted Mother, wife and homemaker, sewing beautiful clothes and knitted countless sweaters not only for her children but all her family. She was also an avid Yankee baseball and Syracuse basketball fan (she didn't like missing a game). Home Demonstration and Home Bureau are two organizations she enjoyed while her children were growing up. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband, dancing, playing cards and games, and spending time with her family and friends. Quick to jump in if anything was needed.

It was important when there was a need that it would be met ... volunteering. She volunteered at the Pasco County Medical Center in Zephyrhills, FL, Cayuga Medical Center, Girls Scouts, 4 H (teaching self- independence and caring for the community), St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she was a member for 45 years, St. Paul's Shepherds Group - Community Service, Prayer Shawls knitting group for people that are ill, primarily Hospice patients, Meals on Wheels to name a few.

Working outside the home was also something Lois did from time to time. In Penn Yan she tied and picked grapes, in Ithaca she worked on the Varna elections and cared for a child outside the home, (children were big focus for her and her husband).

Survived by her son David Hall (Darlene) of Penn Yan, daughters Joyce Andrews Tuner of Ithaca, Sheila Hall of Dryden, Grandchildren Christopher Andrews of Ithaca, M. Scott Andrews (Amy), (Great Granddaughters Willow and M. Skye) all of RI, Megan Hall (Great Grandchildren Levi and Sophia of Ithaca and Bryan Hall (Rachel) of Ithaca.
