Artist and screenwriter, Linda Salzman Sagan, has died at 83. Born in New York City, Linda resided in Ithaca for many years. She designed NASA's Pioneer Plaque and was part of the team that created NASA's Voyager Interstellar Message. The Voyager I and II spacecraft are now the most distant human-made objects in the universe. In Los Angeles, Linda wrote for film and television, with episodes of Knots Landing and General Hospital among her credits. The second wife of astronomer Carl Sagan, she is survived by their son, Nick (Clinnette Minnis) and their granddaughter, Zoe, along with siblings Jerry and Barbara, friends and family Ann Druyan, Sasha Sagan (Jon Noel), Sam Sagan, Jenna Benjamin, Rena Herman, Kim Konopka, Nathan Jarvis and countless others whose lives she touched. We are thankful for her life, her beauty and her many gifts and feel deeply the pain of losing her. A private graveside service will be held at Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the ASPCA or other animal rights charities of your choosing.
