Lida Valentina Martin

Lida Valentina Martin, 78, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 29, 1937 in Binghamton, NY to the late Charles and Bertha Hoyt.

Lida was an accomplished seamstress and culinary expert who met and married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Martin on July 30th, 1955. Lida and Bob had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. Lida was the mother of three, a homemaker, past-president of the Ithaca Lioness Club and retired after 20 years from the Cornell University Campus Bookstore.

In addition to her husband, Robert, Lida is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Martin (Joseph), Constance Burness (Jeffrey) and Robin Craig (Bryson); her grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittany, Anessa, Serenity, Isiah and Allannah; her siblings, Frances Cron, Barbara Proper, Edith Niles, Charlotte Barnes, Charles Hoyt, Kathy Dickman, James Hoyt, Richard Hoyt and Patricia Goodrich; several nieces and nephews and her "Forever Friend", Jacki Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, William Hoyt, Henry Hoyt and David Albro.

A celebration of Lida's life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church on Bostwick Rd. with her son-in-law, Pastor Craig and Pastor Spencer officiating. Friends may call prior to the services beginning at 12 noon. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of CNY or to Hospicare of Tompkins County. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.
