Lela Marie (Tarbox) Blanford, 97, passed peacefully from this life, her family by her side on April 4, 2017, at her long- time residence in Newfield.

Lela was born Feb. 20, 1920 in Pennsylvania to Roy and Bessie Tarbox, the oldest of 6 children. On the adjacent farm lived Charles Allan Blanford. They married in Hancock, NY, in 1937. During World War II Lela and PFC Allan were posted to California for a time, he serving in the Army Signal Corps. They settled in Newfield in 1968 and remained for their final years.

Lela was known for her waitressing skills and was well liked around College Town. Much of her life was dedicated to her grandchildren who always found Newfield Hill to be home.
Lela is survived by four children; Lois Tauber and Sharon Mayers of Newfield, her primary caregivers for the past several years; Joyce Thurman of Imperial Beach, Ca; and Ritchie Blanford of Saint Johns, FL. Nine grandchildren, Nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Lela was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Charles Allan Blanford, in 1993. Her 3 brothers, Ross, Homer and Lewis Tarbox all of Herkimer, NY, and her grandson Ian Marcus Tauber of Newfield, NY.

Services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Peoples Baptist Church, Main Street, Newfield, NY. The family will receive guests from 1-2 p.m. with services at 2 p.m.. The Reverend James Depue will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
