Kenneth L. Mangle

March 27, 1947 — January 11, 2018

Kenneth L. Mangle, 70, of Newfield passed away in the comfort of his home, due to ongoing health conditions, on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
Ken was born on March 27, 1947 in Pontiac, Illinois to the late Kenneth R. Mangle and Luella M. Therien Jones. He grew up in several locations as a military brat. He attended 9 schools in 11 years spanning from California to Labrador before settling in Newfield in 1963. As a member of the Newfield Central School Class of 1966, Ken excelled in team sports especially in Football and Baseball.

In 1967, he entered the Air Force, following in his father's footsteps, where he served in active duty in Vietnam as a Central Office Operator. Upon returning to the States, he was stationed at The Pentagon until his honorable discharge in 1971 ranking as Sergeant.

Ken then pursued a degree at Tompkins Cortland Community College, where he eventually accepted a position in Veterans' Affairs. Having loved his job as Financial Aid Representative and Director of Veterans Affairs, he retired after 30 years.

Ken enjoyed a wide variety of activities including slow pitch softball, bowling, fishing, boating, traveling, casino table games, genealogy, history and his passion for large game hunting. He was an active member of the Newfield Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his only daughter, Keeli A. Mangle of Newfield and his wife, Judith A. Mangle of Hamburg, NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Leonard R. Mangle.

There will be a Memorial at Newfield Rod and Gun Club, 156 Stark Rd, Newfield, Saturday, January, 20, 2018 at 3 pm. A private Military burial will be held in the spring.

In remembrance, donations may be made to the Newfield Scholastic Clay Target Program (Newfield Rod & Gun Club), c/o Tioga State Bank, 183 Main St., Newfield, NY 14867.
