Kathy Jo Trapani

Kathy Jo Trapani née Buchanan, 65, of Utica Street, Ithaca, passed away at home on Thursday morning, July 27th surrounded by her family. She was born in Holland, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Austin J. and Mary Katherine Buchanan.


A warm, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Kathy is survived by her best friend and husband of 36 years, Thomas G. Trapani, sons: Dr. David (Emily) Trapani of Nashville, TN and John (Destyn) Trapani of Ithaca, NY, and three grandaughters whom she loved fiercely, Isla Giovanna Trapani and Demi Kennedy Trapani of Nashville, TN and Ava Marie Trapani of Ithaca, NY. Kathy is also survived by sisters Janie Lou Stout and Martha Ann Stark and brother Austin John II (Diana) Buchanan and many brother and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and many dear close friends.

Kathy was recently retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service at Haylor, Freyer & Coon insurance company in downtown Ithaca where she was a much loved co-worker and friend. She was also a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, a lover of music, a talented sketch artist and beautiful writer often gifting her illustrations and sharing her stories with her close family. Her optimistic spirit and joyful, positive energy will be missed by all who knew and were inspired by her.


Friends may call on Wednesday August 2nd from 4-6 P.M. at Bangs Funeral Home. A Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated by Fr. Augustine Chumo on Thursday, August 3rd at 10 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Private burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery.
