June S. "Judy" Protts

June S. "Judy" Protts, of 312 Wood St., Ithaca, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Hospicare Residence. She was born in Seneca Falls, NY on June 08, 1929, daughter of the late Margaret V. Caveney and Arthur J. Salotti, Sr.

Judy lived all of her life in Ithaca. She graduated from Ithaca High School in 1947 and remained the class of ‘47 treasurer until her death. She met her future husband, Maurice R. Protts while he was home on leave from the United States Navy. They were married from 1950 until his death in 1992. They purchased their home on Wood St. in 1956 and over the years saw that part of the city expand and develop greatly.

Judy went to work at the then Tompkins County Trust Company, while still in school in 1945. She worked in various departments and held several positions over the next 50 years, retiring in 1995. She continued working on a part time basis at the bank following her retirement and saw significant growth and expansion during her 60 year association with the bank. Judy loved being around people and keeping busy. She was a friendly, straight forward person who was always willing to help others.

Judy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, a director of the NYS Safe Deposit Assoc. and was a Notary Public. She had served as the chairperson of the 1st Ward Republican Party and Treasurer of the City Republican Committee. She had many interests including music, antiques and playing the organ. She and Maurice loved animals and over the years had provided tender loving care to the many animals that had passed through their door.

In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was also predeceased by her brother, Arthur J. Salotti, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sherry Salotti and Sherry's children, Michael J. Salotti, Tari S. Black and Susan E. Iacovelli; her nephew, Robin Ball and his wife, Constance; her sister-in-law, Gertrude Protts and additional nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Augustine Chumo on Saturday, November 04, 2017 at 12 noon at the Immaculate Conception Church. Friends may call at the church prior to the mass beginning at 11 am. She will be laid to rest privately with Maurice at the Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy's memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church or to Hospicare or to the charity of one's choice. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
