Judith Ann (Solomon) Mcdermott

June 25, 1940 — January 29, 2024

North Lansing

Judith A. McDermott earned her angel wings on Monday, January 29, 2024.  Born on June 25, 1940, Judy was the daughter of the late Leo and Doris (Bell) Solomon.  The first of three children, Judy was born in Ithaca and grew up on Cascadilla Street.  She graduated from Ithaca High School in and began working after graduation.  It wasn’t long after that she met the love of her life, Wesley, and the two were married on June 17, 1961.  They moved to Oklahoma, where Wes was stationed in the Army as an OCS officer.  After being honorably discharged, the two moved to Buffalo, where Wes attended Law School. Judy was a devoted wife and had their first child, Lance, in 1962, when she was working for Fisher Price Toys in Buffalo. Judy was born to be a mom.  She then gave birth to Kelli in 1971, and Bret, in 1974.  She remained a stay at home mom up until 1986, when she then became employed by the Lansing Central School District as a Teacher’s Assistant, up until her retirement in 2010, at the age of 70!  It was evident of all the young lives she touched, as whenever she was out, there was a good chance that someone would run up to her and give her a hug, always saying how much she had impacted their lives.

Judy’s children and family were her life.  The love she expressed was returned to her two-fold. She was truly the most caring, considerate, self-less woman ever known.  Her legacy is her kindness and generosity that has been passed on to the next generation in her grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, in 2015, in addition to many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.   Through all of her loses, she maintained strength, dignity, and faith in the here-after.  There is no doubt in our minds that she is once again in the embrace of her husband.

Judy is survived by her sister, Diana West, her brother, Jimmy Solomon, her children, Lance, Kelli, and Bret.  She is also survived by her amazing grandchildren, Makenzie and Michael McDermott, and Kennedy, Taylor, Morgan, and Reace Todi.  She absolutely adored her grandchildren and being a grandmother.

Judy’s passing has left an emptiness in all our hearts that will never be filled until the day we are once again in her presence. We love you most.

We would like to thank Hospice, from the bottom of our hearts, for the care and kindness expressed not only to Judy, but to her family as well.
