Joyce L. Vonderlin, age 72, of Ithaca, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2018. She was born on June 20, 1945 in Elmira, N.Y. and was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie (Spencer) and John T. Vonderlin. Joyce graduated from Ithaca High School in 1963 and from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in 1966. After working for a time at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, she returned to Ithaca to work at the Tompkins County Hospital, later the Cayuga Medical Center. Joyce worked at the Medical Center for over 38 years in a variety of capacities and was a respected member of the staff.
In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed traveling adventures, studying history (especially the Civil War), camping, watching numerous sporting events, music of all kinds and especially animals. Joyce was devoted to her family and friends and was always loving and willing to help out whenever possible. She is survived by her brother Chuck Vonderlin (Bette) of Ivanhoe, Texas, and her sister Michele Kolodij (John) of Trumansburg, N.Y., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her “children” (dogs), Lily and Beanie and cat, Mewmi.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Beechtree Care Center and Hospice Care of Tompkins County for their thoughtful help and support during Joyce’s last days.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 at Bang’s Funeral Home with Rev Tim Dean officiating on Saturday, June 2nd friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the service. After services, all attendees are invited to a reception at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 423 W. State Street. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Pet the Pet Program, C/O Nancy Given, 6371 Strong Road, Trumansburg, New York, 14886.
