Dr. Joseph J. Doyle, 86, died April 14, 2013, at Bridges of Cornell Heights, of complications from a stroke he suffered in January 2011. Joe and his wife of 62 years, Grace Doyle, moved to Ithaca, NY, from Williamsburg, VA in November 2011 to be near their son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jane Doyle of Ithaca. Grace, Jeff, and Jane all survive him. Joe graduated from LaSalle College in 1944, and then served in the US Navy at the end of WWII, receiving an honorable discharge. He received his Masters degree from Fordham University in 1950, and his Ph.D. in political science in 1967 from George Washington University. During his long career with the US government, he and his family lived in Uruguay and Venezuela, and he traveled throughout much of the world, particularly in Latin America. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph Marcoux at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 302 St. Catherine Circle, Ithaca, NY, at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, with a small reception immediately following the Mass. There will be no calling hours. Inurnment will be at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospicare (172 E King Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850), Finger Lakes Land Trust (202 East Court Street, Ithaca, NY 14850), or St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
