Joseph Cudlin 97 of Newfield, NY passed away on March 29, 2025. Joe was born in Zruc, Czech Republic on July 2, 1927 to Charles and Josephine (Sysova) Cudlin and came to the United States with his parents that same year. Joe served in the air force as a radio repairman & radio operator from 1945-1948, he was stationed in Scott Air force Base, Illinois. He married Ruth Dorothy Shultz on June 1, 1949 and had 5 children. Joe is predeceased by his wife Ruth, son David, father Charles, mother Josephine, brother Peter, sister Vera and son-in-law David LaPadula.
He is survived by his daughters Linda (Vincent) DiStefano, JoAnn LaPadula, Sandra (John) Merrill, Lisa (David) Brown, daughter-in-law Sharon (Sherry) Cudlin. Grandchildren Peter (Jenny) DiStefano, Julie (Darrell) Kegler, Angela LaPadula, Michelle (Chad) Kithcart , Travis Cudlin, Riley & Karlee Brown; great-grandchildren Tucker DiStefano, Emma and Ryan Kithcart.
As youngsters he & his brother followed in their dad's footsteps and became butchers/meat cutters. The Cudlin family owned Cudlin's Meat Market in the heart of the village of Newfield until Joe's dad and brother moved to Florida in the late 50s. Joe and Ruth operated Cudlin's Market on Main Street, Newfield for many years until they moved the business to Cox Rd. After selling the market to his daughter Linda and son-in-law Vince, Joe retired and kept himself busy attending livestock auctions-buying & selling livestock, and finding “antiques & treasures”, something he really enjoyed.
He was known to have a great sense of humor and was always ready to tell stories about his time in the service, his time growing up in the small town of Newfield and his daily adventures with livestock hauling.....he always had a story to tell. He loved to travel and took the family on a yearly trip to Florida to see his brother Peter. He took his family on a road trip around the U.S.A. (one we will always remember!). Joe had a great time RVing around Alaska for he & Ruth's 50th anniversary with family members and visiting his youngest daughter Lisa and family in Montana. In his later years he was happy to take a quick flight to Florida with daughters Linda & Sandy and daughter-in-law Sharon to visit JoAnn and her family.
His children will always remember him for his famous saying “If you kids don't find something to do I will find something for you!” and he sure would!
