John J. "Butch" Sincebaugh

May 30, 1945 — June 18, 2015

John "Butch" Joseph Sincebaugh Sr. age 70 of Newfield lost his battle with cancer on June 18, 2015. He was born May 30, 1945 to Ana Handlen Kastenhuber and the late John "Jack" I. Sincebaugh on the family farm in Hector NY. He married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Catholen Vann Sincebaugh on July 15, 1967.

He was proud to have served his country from 1964-1972 in the Navy Reserves, during this time; he served active duty in Vietnam and Okinawa from 1963-1966 as a Navy Seabee.

He started working for his father's business Fingerlakes Construction at the age of 14 and continued until 1984. He then began working for the Tompkins County Highway department as a working supervisor until his retirement in 2007. He served on the Newfield Town Board as an elected Town Councilman for eight years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 961 and had served as acting chaplain for two years. He also was a member of the American Legion of Trumansburg.

He enjoyed working in his woodshop making special pieces of furniture for many family members and friends. He also enjoyed his time as a volunteer at the Cayuga Medical Center and missed visiting with patients and staff. His love of fishing was known by many both near and as far away as Lake Champlain where he and his son in law, loved to go to catch-"the big ones". But most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends along with his constant furry companions- Fred and Gizzy.

In addition to his wife and mother, Butch is survived by his three children, Karen (Kelly) Trask of Newfield NY, Tammy Homan(Jason Day) of Fabius NY and John J. Sincebaugh Jr. (D'Arcy) of New Jersey, along with his 2 grandchildren, Christopher Homan and Ashley Sincebaugh. His siblings, Cheryl (Marty) Oltz, Debbie (Dave) Maycumber, Roger Kastenhuber, George Kastenhuber and many aunts, uncle, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jackie Maycumber in 2013.

The world lost a great man who showed us all courage and strength through his constant battles with cancer. Friends and family may call on Saturday June 27, 2015 from 11-12 at the Trumbulls Corner's Community Church with services to follow. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
