John W. Petrillose Jr.
Hyde Park, Tampa, FL, formally of Ithaca, NY passed away on Monday July 2, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. Born September 24, 1929 in Ithaca, NY, he was the son of the late John W. Petrillose Sr. and Ruth Goff Petrillose. He was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Parochial School and Ithaca High School and attended St. Bonaventure University.
John worked in his families' restaurant business (Johnny's Big Red Grill) before venturing out on his own and becoming proprietor of the Cozy Corner Luncheonette and two mobile soft-serve ice cream trucks know as Dairy Dan. He then began a thirty-one year career with Cornell University first as manager of the Statler Cornell Faculty Club - Rathskeller located in the School of Hotel Administration and then with Cornell Dining Services as manager of Cornell Faculty Club located at Anabel Taylor Hall and manager of the Risley Hall dining center.
A lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception parish in addition to being a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center, FL and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hyde Park, Tampa, FL
Predeceased by his brother Robert C. Petrillose Sr., he is survived by his wife of sixty years Barbara Sullivan Petrillose, their children Dr. Michael J. Petrillose of Delhi, NY, Laurie Joughin (Leslie, III) of Tampa, FL, Cristina Petrie (George) of Las Vegas, NV. Grandson's Andrew Joughin of Tampa, FL and Charles Joughin of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by his sister Connie Yochum of Avalon, NJ, several cousins, nieces and nephews
His family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to the staff of Abigail House in Hyde Park, Tampa, FL for the compassionate care they provided him during his last few months.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday July 12, 2012 at 10:00am. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in his name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the HOSPICARE of your choice.
