John Nicholas Mahool passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 28, 2016 surrounded by love at Cornerstone Hospice Care in Orlando, Florida. Johnny was a leap year baby, born February 29, 1940, to Samuel and Selma (Sheheen) Mahool in Ithaca, New York. He attended Ithaca city schools and joined the Marine Corps in 1957, serving proudly for 6 years spanning the Vietnam War. Johnny was a master drummer and traveled with many famous musicians in Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars. He returned to Ithaca and operated the renowned North 40 dance club for many years along with his younger brother, Leo. Johnny managed Cortland Country Club, What's Your Beef, Ithaca Yacht Club, and Town and Country Inn but his last and favorite job was bartending at Lucatelli's for many years where he was fondly known as "Johnny May".
Johnny loved his family and friends with a ferocity that was typical of this little man with the big personality, and he will be missed just as fiercely.
In addition to being survived by his brother, Leo Mahool of Lansing, NY, Poppa, as he was known to his many grandchildren, is survived by his loving "fiancé" of 27 years, Sharon Marx of Winter Garden, FL, and his children, Michele (David) Servati of Rochester, NY, David (Margie) Mahool of Arlington, TX, and Nicole (Jasmine) Mahool of New York, NY, as well as a stepson, Michael (Mona) Gracen residing in Winter Garden, FL.
