John Capalongo

John "Cappy" Capalongo, 83, of Ithaca, NY, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 27, 1940, John was the son of the late Henry and Margaret Casano Capalongo. John served in the United States Army and was a dedicated member of the V.F.W, the American Legion, Eagles, Moose, and Knights of Columbus. His involvement in these organizations showcased his commitment to service.

John was a beloved husband to Carolyn Kimple Capalongo, who predeceased him, and a devoted father to Julie (Mike) Reynolds, Amy (Robb) Hamm, Sara Capalongo, John (Patty) Capalongo, Jeff (Chrissy) Capalongo, and Tom (Kim) Capalongo. John was a cherished grandfather to 11 grandchildren.

In addition to his immediate family, John is survived by his brother, Fred Capalongo, and sisters, Connie Capalongo,  Adriana Green, and Mary Miller.

Known for his sense of humor, hard work, and impeccable yard, Cappy touched the lives of many in Ithaca and beyond. He was a caring soul who enjoyed friends and never passed up the opportunity to help someone in need. Additionally, he was known for his unwavering dedication to family, leaving a legacy of love and support that will be cherished by all who knew him.

John, a retired mason and a successful entrepreneur, operated several businesses in the area, including the Hide-A-Way Lounge, Rogues Harbor, and Cappy's.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 14th, from 3-6 pm at Bangs Funeral Home with a prayer service to follow at 6pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in John's memory may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd, Ithaca, NY.

John's legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.
