John S. Aagard

John S. Aagaard, 79, of Coddington Rd., Brooktondale, died peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2014. He was born in Ithaca, son of the late Andrew and Nancy Cardonia Aagaard. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Janet Aaagard who died in 2010 and his brother, Andrew "Popeye" Aagaard.

John graduated from Candor Central in 1952 and served with the United States Army. He was an electrician and had been a 55 year member of IBEW #241. John and Janet had owned H & H Liquor & Wines on the Ithaca Commons from 1975-1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post 907, Candor, NY, the Immaculate Conception Church and served as a board member of the Candor School District . He was an avid sports fan and was a youth sports coach.

He is survived by his sons, John (Laura) Aagaard and Mike (Sally) Vose; his grandchildren, Sara, Nathan, Vanessa and Kara; great granddaughter, Jocelyn and his sister, Frances Aagaard Terwillegar and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Jeffrey Tunnicliff on Friday, February 28th at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military honors will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, February 27th from 4 to 6 pm at the Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca or to Catholic Charities, 324 W. Buffalo St., Ithaca.
