Joan M. Skierski of Ithaca, passed away Friday, January 12th, 2018 at the age of 84.
Joan was born in Buffalo, NY on June 11, 1933. She was a graduate of Dixon City High School. Joan and
the late Leonard Thomas Skierski raised their children in Ithaca, where she worked and retired from the
Ithaca School system. She worked for over 40 years at Napoli's. She was an active member of the
Eagles Club and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed traveling to the Eagles conventions,
planning dinners and charity events at the club, playing cards, going to casinos, eating out with Kenneth
Fiero and friends.
Joan is survived by her 3 children and 9 grandchildren: Susanne VanVolkinburg with her daughters
Aleshia Akers, Samantha Akers, Kacie Akers, and son Jay VanVolkinburg; Leonard J Skierski with his wife
Dawn Skierski, son Thomas Skierski and daughter Abigail Skierski; Michael Skierski with sons Kyle and
Kody Medrek, and daughter Mikayla Skierski.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Eagles Club on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 starting at
5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Ladies Auxiliary at the Eagles Club. Bangs Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
