Joan Elizabeth O'Mara

Joan Elizabeth O'Mara (nee Blum) passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024 after a long illness.

She was the daughter of Edwin and Edna Blum. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 67 years, John F. O'Mara, and her sister, Jean Klaiber. She is survived by a daughter, Robyn O'Mara of East Syracuse and two grandchildren, Max Orphanides of Syracuse and Gabrielle Hiltz (Killian) of Cicero as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joan was a communicant of First United Church of East Syracuse. She was a 1950 graduate of Nottingham High School, and Powelson Business Institure. She worked for the City of Syracuse in the Licensing Office. She was very active in her churches for all her life. She enjoyed ballroom dancing lessons with her husband, cooking and baking, card games with family and traveling. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and neighbor.

She will be interred at Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve next to her husband John.

Graveside services will be Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse NY 13057 or Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve, 293 Irish Hill Road, Newfield, NY 14867.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Bangs Funeral Home
