Joan L. Goundry, 90, passed away from pneumonia on October 4, 2017, in Ithaca, New York, her home for the past seven months. The daughter of Ray E. and Elma Dubson Latshaw, Joan lived most of her life in Royersford, where she had many longtime friends. She graduated from Royersford High School in 1945 and Cornell University in 1949, spending her career at a Norristown medical practice from which she retired after nearly forty years.
Active in the community, Joan was a member of the Royersford United Methodist Church since childhood and, as an avid reader, served on the board of the Royersford Public Library. She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle, solving puzzles, finding unique gifts, and travelling. Her family will always treasure her handmade sweaters and afghans and have fond memories of her exceptional wit and lively card games.
Joan is survived by her daughter Gail and son-in-law Robert Jarrow, of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren Kyle (and wife Lauren), Tate, and Heather Jarrow; and great-granddaughter Oona Joan Jarrow. She also leaves her sister Dian Latshaw Sutton, nephew Ken Sutton and family, several cousins, and her dear friends. A strong and independent woman, Joan was an inspiration and guiding light to many, and she will be missed.
A private graveside service will be held at Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford, in spring 2018. In lieu of flowers and in Joan's memory, please cherish special moments with loved ones.
