Jean M. Kelly, 52, of Newfield, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Cayuga Ridge. She was born in Ithaca on July 12, 1961, daughter of Lawrence Saunders, who survives her and the late Cora Hayes Belles.
Prior to her illness, Jean had worked at Cornell University and had also worked at the Cayuga Medical Center. She was an extremely independent, strong minded woman who loved animals and gardening.
In addition to her father, Jean is also survived by her daughter, Misty Ferguson; her son, Dustin Kelly and her grandchildren, Pierce and Treyvon. She is also survived by her sisters, Virginia (Michael) Maloney and Jo Ann (Keith) Hoffman; her brother, Jeffrey (Velvet) Saunders and nieces and nephews. In addition to her mother, Jean was also predeceased by her son, Kevin Michael Saunders.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 1 pm at the Bangs Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to the SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca.
