Mazurek, Jane L.
In loving memory of Jane, of Ithaca, who went home to her Lord Jesus on November 20, 2013. Born October 23, 1938 in Torrington, Connecticut, she spent her early childhood in nearby West Cornwall. She often reminisced on these years, fondly recalling the Housatonic River passing through this beautiful hamlet and the historic covered bridge that spans it, serving as the inspiration for some of her artistic endeavors as an adult. A gifted pianist, she cultivated her passion for music as a teenager before entering the music program at Montclair State University. She continued her music studies at Oberlin College, and it was here that she met her future husband, Frank, whom she married in Salzburg, Austria on January 7, 1960. That fall the newlyweds permanently moved to Ithaca, where Frank began his career as a music educator while Jane selflessly assumed the duties of homemaker and devoted mother.
In addition to music, Jane was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, embroidery, and rug making. After the demands of motherhood were behind her, she also pursued her lifelong ambition of becoming an aviatrix, first earning her private pilot license, and then her instrument rating. Jane was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Jane was predeceased by Frank, her husband of 50 years, and is survived by her son David of Bozrah, CT, and her daughter Debbie of Cato, NY.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 P.M., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green St., Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Salvation Army Kitchen Cupboard, 150 N. Albany St., Ithaca, NY 14850.
