James R. (Jim) Poyer

James (Jim) R. Poyer, 66, of Freeville, NY passed away August 29, 2024.

Jim was born July 1, 1958 in Albuquerque, NM to Merton Poyer and Betty Kastenhuber. They moved to the Ithaca area where Jim grew up and spent much of his life.

He met his wife Ellen in 1979 they married April 25, 1981. They moved to Texas shortly after being married, there they had their first child Robin Ashley. They later returned to Ithaca and had their second child Shane.

Jim worked overnights at Ithaca College as a custodian for many years. He later worked at Cornell as a custodian until he retired.

Jim loved to travel, in 2004 he and his wife began travelling the country. They lived in NC, FL, NV. They returned to Freeville in 2006 where they have lived since.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed being around people and sharing stories and a good laugh. He enjoyed indulging his grandkids with things that made him feel nostalgic; go karts, bikes, old movies, food from his favorite spots, and trips to parks.

Jim is survived by his wife Ellen, his children Robin (Tom) Collins, Shane Poyer, grandkids; Bryn and Tommy, his sister Janet (Al) Rice, a brother Randy Poyer, nieces & nephews, cousins,
and many dear friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at the VFW, 423 W. State St. Ithaca, NY on September 14, 2024 from 2-4 pm.
