James L. Harvill

James L. Harvill, 87, of Newfield, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his home. He was born and raised in Texas, son of the late Walter B. Harvill and Lucille Mary Lynch Harvill.

Jim attended high school in Gonzalez, TX and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at various bases including Lackland (TX), Maguire (NJ), Sampson (NY), Goose Bay, Labrador, Stewart (NY), Loring (ME). He retired as a Tech. Sgt. in 1969 after 22 ½ years of service. Following his Air Force retirement he worked at Cornell University in Building & Grounds for 25 years. He was a long time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church of Ithaca

Jim is survived by his daughter, Debora Harvill (John Cardonia) of SC; his sons, Daniel Harvill (Donna Maria) of Spencer, NY and David Harvill (Lori) of MD; his brother, Lawrence Tate (Lorraine) of CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler Harvill, Chelsea Harvill Drake, Jeffrey Russell, Kyle Quick, Kaylah Harvill, Cheyenne Harvill and Fallon Harvill and his great grandchildren, Katie and Faith Quick and Brice McIlroy and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Carole Edsall Harvill; his brother, Buddie Joe Harvill and his infant daughter, Diana Lynn Harvill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Augustine Chumo on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 9 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military honors will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at the Bangs Funeral Home.
