James (Jim) Joseph Giamei, 72, of Freeville, NY, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, peacefully in his sleep on August 3, 2018. He had patiently endured an extended battle with liver disease.
James was born on June 24, 1946 to the late Nicholas Giamei and Georgiana Speciale Giamei in Corning, NY. He lived in Corning most of his life, working for Corning Glass and Ingersoll-Rand of Painted Post. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Technology from Elmira College, he worked for NYSEG as a computer programmer from 1986 until his retirement in 2007.
James was passionate about all sports, both personally and as a fan. He was a wrestler in high school, and as an adult was on bowling teams, played golf and ran several 5Ks. His love for the NY Giants Football team was unsurpassed. He watched every game, followed every news article and wore their colors, proudly. James enjoyed Yankee baseball, March Madness, the Masters golf tournament, Kentucky Derby, and even shared his wife’s love of Olympic figure skating.
Family was deeply important to James. He took great pleasure in making life full of laughter and fun by taking several vacations to Cape Cod, playing mini golf, family card games and relaxing sunset walks.
James is survived by his wife of 38 years, April Forrest Giamei; his four children, Gina Giamei of Boston, MA, Kristin Wilcox of Groton, NY, Daniel Giamei of Cortland, NY, Noah Giamei of Springfield, MO; his two granddaughters, Hazel and Juniper Wilcox; a brother, Dr. Anthony Giamei of Higganum, CT; a sister, Natalie (Tolly) Giamei Burdick of Corning, NY; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of James’ life will be held at Reach Out For Christ Church, Freeville, NY on September 2, 2018 at 3 pm. Refreshments to follow in the fellowship hall.
