Jacquelyn A. Smith, of Danby, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014 at Cayuga Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 16, 1932, she was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Helen Rodabaugh and a sister, Danielle Sackle. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Carl R. Fitchpatrick. Jackie, as she liked to be called, quit school at a young age to help support her family and mother after her father's death. She was a waitress for many years at Pierce's in Elmira and at local restaurants locally. She was housekeeper for Audrey Edelman for a number of years. She was the ultimate matriarch of the family. A consummate mother and homemaker, she worked hard to raise her family and was always there for us when we needed her. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and adoring husband. She took great pride in her home and would always have something for you to eat or drink. Her heart was filled with an abundance of love, proven by taking in many young children and guiding them through life. Jacquelyn is survived by her husband of 53 years, George O. Smith Sr.; daughters, Betty F. Poole (Raymond) of Enfield, Bonnie Lee Compton of Ithaca, Joann Riley (Edward) of Niskayuna, George O. Smith Jr. of Spencer, and Rhonda Glennon (John) North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Gardner (Gordon) of Horseheads. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Bangs Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by memorial service. Interment will be Danby Rural Cemetery.
