Irene Kalinowski

Irene Kalinowski, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 18, 2021, in Ithaca, NY, after a fulfilling and beautiful life. She was born and lived in Garfield, NJ, daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Pastelak) Janda. Irene worked in the Accounts Payable Department for both Super Quality Oil Co. in Garfield, NJ for over 25 years before moving on to Marriott, in Saddle Brook, NJ, where she worked until her retirement in the late 1980s. Later, she and her husband John moved to Ithaca, NY, to be close to their daughter, Janet and young grandson, Daniel, where she has resided for the past 23 years. She will be remembered for her warmth, wit and always having a warm meal ready for friends and family. Irene is survived by her grandson, Daniel Kalinowski, 30, of Washington, DC, formerly of Ithaca, NY, to whom she raised alongside her late husband John, which they brought many years of joy to, the Zbieg’s of Mahwah, NJ, the Kalinowski’s of Ashford, CT and many loved ones from her new Ithaca community, especially Peggy McKernan, who was a lifelong friend of Irene and her daughter Janet. She was predeceased by her husband John of 66 years in 2016, her daughter, Janet Kalinowski who died in 1999, her siblings Bertha ‘Auntie Bert’ in 2000, Mary (Liptak) of Oregon, Edward of Connecticut and her brother Corporal Chester Janda in 1944 during WWII, as well as her brothers-in-law, Joseph Kalinowski and his wife Helen of Connecticut, Ted and Jane (Kalinowski) Zbieg of Garfield, NJ, her nephew Don Zbieg of Garfield, NJ, and niece Debra (Zbieg) Manov, Boca Raton, FL.

She was a member of The Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca and a former member of St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church in Garfield, NJ. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 9 a.m. at St. Michael's Cemetery, S. Hackensack, NJ. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.
