Helen Rogers

Helen Rogers, 98, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, her loving family at her side.  Helen, a life-long resident of Ithaca, was born on July 12, 1924.

Known as “Gramma Helen” to all her kid’s friends, Helen was proud of her Hungarian heritage and shared many recipes from her family’s home country.  She was a beautiful knitter and seamstress and was an avid volunteer in the Ithaca community.  Helen was an active member of the Greater Ithaca Activities Center, thoroughly enjoying all the programs they offered, the friendships she made there, and supporting the efforts of Zack Nelson, Senior Program Coordinator.  She was also a member of the Ithaca Country Club, playing in the TNT golf league and attending social events.

She is survived by her three children, Jeanne Dorward, Judy Wood (Chip), and devoted, long-standing care provider, son, John Rogers. She is also survived by her brother, John Perko.  Additionally, she is survived by grandchildren Amanda Nivison, Lee Wood, Tim Wood (Amelia), Melissa Dorward Bauman (David), and Kate King (Andy) and eight great-grandchildren, as well as many caring nieces and nephews.

Helen was married to the late Wallace B. Rogers, Director of General Services at Cornell, in 1953, and is predeceased by her brothers Donald Perko and Edward Pirko. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband on January 12, 1993.

Helen’s family gives heartfelt gratitude to the health care providers, their staff, Visiting Nurses, and private nurses for exemplary care and kindness.

At Helen’s request, there will be no services.  A memorial will be held during the summer.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation of your choice or to offer kindness to anyone in need.
