Mr. Harold Herman, of Ithaca, New York, passed away on September 5, 2021, peacefully at his home surrounded by friends and family. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Herman was born on February 23, 1943 in New York, NY. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1960. He received his B.A. from Brooklyn College in 1964 and moved to Ithaca in 1972.
Harold will be remembered most for his warm and inviting smile, his calm demeanor, and his compassion for others.
Both he and his wife, the late Paula Herman who died in 2016, were dedicated public servants who worked for Tompkins County. During their long careers, they helped many people throughout Tompkins County and the Ithaca community.
Harold is survived by his two sons, Jason Herman of the Bronx and Nathaniel (Samara Cohen) Herman of Manhattan, a sister Arlene Feldman of the Bronx, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Harold was predeceased by a sister, Faith Nahman of Queens.
Harold was a prominent within the Ithaca community. He was known for walking through Fall Creek, Collegetown, and downtown Ithaca. He was also known for his love of sports and preaching the benefits of positivity. His passion was his disciplined practice of daily meditation. He will be greatly missed as a father, a brother, an uncle, and especially as a friend.
