NEWFIELD - Gordon W. Miller, age 79, passed away surrounded by his family on December 25, 2018. He was born on July 26, 1939 in Ithaca, NY to William and Mildred Miller. Gordie married Sandra Stevens. Together they had three daughters. When their daughters were young Gordie and Sandy enjoyed taking them on weekend trips. Gordie built their family home himself brick by brick. He was a painter and a carpenter, but most remembered for Miller’s Scrap Yard his family owned business passed down from his father. Gordie greeted each customer with a “how do?” and invited many in as friends for a cup of coffee. He loved to joke and was a great storyteller. Gordie spent many mornings drinking coffee with his buddies at Carl’s Café, many nights sipping on a pop (with no ice) at the Pyramid mall, and most Sundays on the edge of his seat watching NASCAR (rooting for Ricky Rudd). He also enjoyed going for a “ride around the loop” relaxing in his recliner with his dog Beauty, and most recently caring for his beloved wife Sandy.
He valued spending time with his family sharing a meal, going out for ice cream, or taking trips to the county fair. When his grandchildren were young, he loved watching them play outside, he taught them to ride bikes, ties their shoes, and write their ABC’s.
Gordie loved a bargain and taught his children and grandchildren the importance of family and how to be content with what they have.
He is survived by his wife Sandy of 60 years, his daughters Carol Curkendall, Arlene (Eric) Sperger, Nancy (David) VanEtten, 9 grandchildren and 5 great children.
He will be sorely missed, but his family will keep his memory alive by passing on his stories.
