Gloria Padula 89 of Venice, Florida passed into eternal rest on June 13, 2018. Born in Ithaca, NY January 12, 1929, she was the eldest daughter of the late Lawrence and Alice Newhart. She attended Ithaca Public Schools graduating from Ithaca High School in 1948.
Gloria had varied and successful employment in both the United States and Canada. She was employed as an Accounting Clerk with Mohawk Airlines until they disbanded, then as a Clerk Typist and Assistant Librarian at General Electric Advanced Electronic Center. She relocated to Montreal, Canada where she was an Accounting Clerk for Sylvania Electric Company. Returning to the United States she was employed at Cornell University until 1966, when she accepted the position as Deputy Town Clerk in Orono, Maine until 1970. She then moved to Lockport, NY where she was employed by Fisher-Price Toys as Administrative Secretary for the Maintenance Department. She retired in 1984.
Gloria was a loving and affectionate mother of three children. She liked to knit, crochet, collect recipes for innovative meals, watch game shows and maintain contact with family and friends. She was the unfortunate victim of multiple medical traumas, a long time cancer survivor and was handicapped for many years with debilitating illness. Yet she always maintained an outgoing cheerful and personable relationship with all who reciprocated.
She held memberships and with her husband participated in a number of social, professional, and fraternal organizations. She was a past member of the Faculty Wives of the University of Maine, and later became active in the Ladies Altar Society of St John's Catholic Church in Lockport, NY until prevented by medical limitations. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Armand Padula; of Venice, FL, a son Norman (Sandra) Padula of Carlsbad, CA; a brother Victor (Martha) Newhart of Apopka, FL; and two sisters, Louise Moses of Ithaca, NY and Ruth Peter of Mesa, AZ. She is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter Gwen (Anthony) Shannon, her eldest son, Ithaca Police Investigator Michael Padula, grandson Michael D. Padula and her brother Lawrence (Dorothy) Newhart.
Public visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY. Interment will be on Friday, June 22 at Cavalry Cemetery preceded by a private family service at the funeral home which will be celebrated by Fr. Paul Bonacci.
