Gladys (Nee Braunstein) Clark

Gladys Clark, née Braunstein, died peacefully on June 19, 2021in Haverford, PA. She was born June 17, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, the elder child of Hyman and Jenny Braunstein.

Gladys graduated from University of California at Berkeley, to which she had transferred after meeting the love of her life, David Clark. She and David were married in San Francisco in 1949. They moved to Ithaca in 1955 where they had a warm and loving life together until his death in 1997. In 2012, after many years at Kendal at Ithaca, Gladys moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to family.

Gladys led an active and athletic life that served as an inspiration to her three children. She skied and played tennis into her 80's. She was a wonderful dancer and a skilled photographer. After David built a darkroom for her, she began to develop her own photographs, exhibiting some at a gallery in Ithaca. One of her photographs, of Beebe Lake, became a Cornell University postcard.

Largely a stay-at-home mother, Gladys was devoted to the well-being of her family and to ensuring her children were exposed to every possible opportunity for development, from sports to music lessons, to literature and travel. She occasionally worked part-time as an editor, in line with her degree in English.

Gladys loved to travel, especially to Europe, where she and David lived during his three sabbaticals. She also loved music, art, her many close friends, and most of all, her family.

Gladys is survived by her sister, Barbara Feldman, of Teaneck, NJ; her children, Marcia Arem, of Merion, PA; Gordon Clark, of San Diego, CA; and Janet Clark, of Media, PA; seven grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters. She will be deeply missed by all.

Funeral service will be held on June 22, 2021 at 11am in Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green St. Ithaca. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery
