George Scott Payton was born to Edwin and Elsie Payton in Hamilton Ontario Canada October 29,1930 and was ‘Promoted to Glory’ in the early morning hours of March 10, 2025.
George served over 45 years in ministry in The Salvation Army retiring in 1995 with the rank of Major. This Sacramental life of service expanded to cities and areas in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio. And Southern New England.
He was known for his expertise in building, mentoring, teaching, and Community Service. During his before retirement time he was active in Rotary club in every appointment. George was a gifted musician, a genuine people person, much loved by so many family and friends and colleagues. During a difficult health journey in the last 4 years of his life he remained positive and hopeful and was even loved by medical staff! He and his wife Grace shared ministry and retired in 1995 to Danby NY on the family homestead.
Besides Grace, George is survived by daughters Gayle(Brett), Joy(Tom); sons John(Lynn), Greg (Laurene) and daughter in law Donna. Eleven Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren. His sister Margaret and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by son George Jr and son-in -law Brett.
