Fred E. Asay, Jr.

ITHACA- Fred E Asay, Jr. formerly of North Cayuga St, Ithaca, NY, passed away on December 23, 2014 at the age of 91.


Born on April 06, 1923 in Ovid, NY, Fred was the son of Fred Earl Asay, Sr., and Mollie Lentz Asay. He served during WWII with the 3rd Calvary under George Patton until his discharge in October 1945.
Fred was employed by Seneca Army Depot, working there until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the American Legion Post #770 Trumansburg; Farmerville Union Lodge #183 Interlaken, NY; NARFE (National Association Retired Federal Employees). He was also a member of United Methodist Church Trumansburg.

Fred enjoyed many things in life. He was a longtime member of SPEBSQSA, traveling extensively with his wife, Irene to many barbershop quartet functions to enjoy singing at its best with friends both old and new. He enjoyed his time in Fall Creek, being the adopted grandparent to anyone that would allow him. Sitting on the porch listening to the music whether it be porchfest or the neighborhood children, enjoying the music singing along when he could whether he knew the words or not.

Fred is survived by his daughters Cheryl (James) Potter; Linda Anderson; his granddaughters Michelle (Charlie) Armstrong and Mary McCarthy Young and his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred is predeceased by his wife, Irene, Bill (brother) and Rose (sister), daughter Patricia P Bulger and his grandchildren Timothy and Fredrick McCarthy.

A memorial service honoring Fred's life will be held on Saturday, January 03, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Interment with military honors to be held at Frear Memorial Park will be delayed until spring. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in his honor to American Legion #770 Trumansburg.
