Frank Szabo

December 4, 1918 — January 22, 2014

Frank William (Bill) Szabo, age 95, of Ithaca, passed away
on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Frank was born on December 4,
1918, in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of the late Frank and
Julia Molnar Szabo.
Mr. Szabo attended Miami University, where he earned a
BS in Education. Additionally, he attended the University of
Idaho, Cornell University and New York University, where he
went on to earn a MA in Educational Administration. Frank was
a veteran of WWII, where he served with the United States
Marines, and continued to serve his country as a member of the
United States Naval Reserve.
Frank grew up in Ithaca, and following a distinguished
career in education, which took him to Ohio, North Carolina,
and Long Island, New York, he returned to make his home in Ithaca
upon retirement. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge #51, F. &
A.M., and was inducted into both the Ithaca High School Sports
Hall of Fame and the STAC Section IV Hall of Fame, recognized
for his outstanding achievements in track and field. He was
an avid golfer, enjoyed bluegrass music, clogging, traveling,
and spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Szabo was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest, Harry,
and Edward Szabo. He is survived by his sister, Helen Szabo,
nieces Deborah Tagliavento and Lynn Szabo, nephews William
and David Szabo, and sister-in-law Edie Szabo.
Services will be private and there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in
Frank's memory be directed to st. Jude's Children's Hospital.
