Francis Albert Facer, passed September 29, 2023 at age 106. Francis passed peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born in Geneva, NY on December 19, 1916, the son of Claude A. and Carolyn E. (Schlageter). He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Morris), brothers Thomas and Frederick Facer and grandson Matthew Maier. He is survived by his daughter Anne Marie Maier (William), son F. Thomas Facer (Margaret Warner), grandsons Brian (Corina), Thomas (Dana) and Joseph (Kimberly) Maier, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Francis graduated from Batavia HS in 1934 and Cornell University School of Agriculture in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science degree and ROTC commission, 2nd LT Army Calvary. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran with a commendation of the British Cross, awarded by HRM King George for his meritorious liaisons with the British government. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel in 1976.
Francis had a distinguished career as a Public Accountant until age 103. He was a member of the Ithaca Flying Club, taking his last flight at age 99. Upon his retirement he moved to The Bridges Cornell Heights in 2020, where he was lovingly cared for until his passing.
He was a life long parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 309 Siena Drive, Ithaca, NY. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Francis’ life from noon to 1pm in the church sanctuary prior to his Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Internment at Calvery Cemetary to follow immediately after with full Military Honors.
