Floyd P. "T.O." "Tootie" Werner, 92, of Lansing, NY passed away on December 31, 2017. He was born on April 19, 1925 to Floyd P. Sr. and Caroline Naylor Werner.
Floyd graduated from Ithaca High in 1943 and soon entered the United States Navy to serve during World War II. He was the fifth of five brothers to all serve during combat at the same time. He and his brothers were all proud that each one of them survived the war. Floyd was proud to have served on D-Day, landing on Omaha Beach to signal in landing craft. He also served in Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Occupation of Japan. He was decorated with The Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal and a European Theater Citation. Following his discharge he returned to Ithaca and married Pauline Mikula Werner. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and in retirement worked in the parking lot booth at Citizens Savings Bank. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Floyd was predeceased by his wife, Pauline; baby daughter, Mary; his parents and all twelve of his siblings, Anna, Florence, Doris, Irene, Miriam, Jeanette, Dorothy, Grace, Elwood, Woodrow, Lloyd and David. He is survived by his sons, Donald (Christine) Werner and William (Sue) Werner and a special niece, Joanne VanBuskirk, whom he considered as one of his own. In addition he is also survived by his granddaughters and great grandchildren, Jamie (Dennis) Small, Melissa Orlins, Tatum Werner, Nolan Small, Cadie Small, London Orlins, Heather (Matt) Burkhard, Bethany Small, Keegan Pjultis and David Gee; his sister-in-law, Barbara Kraft and brother-in-law, Paul Mikula as well as several beloved nieces and nephews who also survive him.
Floyd will be laid to rest with Pauline at the Calvary Cemetery. Burial with military honors and a memorial picnic will be held during the summer of 2018.
