Everett D. Markwardt, age 100 Emeritus Professor of Agricultural Engineering at Cornell University passed away December 11, 2021 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls.

Born September 5, 1921 in Bisbee, ND he was the son of the late Albert and Annie Oakland Markwardt. He served in the US Army Air Corp as a Second Lieutenant during World War II, stationed at Edwards Air Force Base. During his time at Cornell, he was instrumental in the development of the mechanical apple harvester. Everett was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, serving on the building committee during renovations. He was a founding member of the Ithaca Swim Club and was long time head of the NY Southern Tier Swim Officials. He was also active with local Boy Scout Troops.

Everett is survived by his wife, Velma Nice Markwardt; son, Douglas (Marcia) Markwardt; son, Kevin (Laura Cuomo) Markwardt; daughter, Carol (James) Wood; grandson, Dustin (Mindy) Markwardt; grandson, Kyle Markwardt; grandson, Jakob Markwardt; granddaughter, Kayla Markwardt and great grandson, Cedar Allen Markwardt. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brother, Stan Markwardt and sister, Ruby Markwardt Bishop.

No formal services are planned at this time. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 109 Oak Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850.
