Erik Johannes Gaden

Erik Johannes Gaden, 75, of Danby, NY passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Mineola, NY on March 25, 1941, son of the late John and Thelma Glanister Gaden.

Erik was the owner of J & S Enterprises, Power Sweeping Service and had previously worked as a mechanic at ESSO gas station, Cayuga Ford and Bill Cooke's. He was a member of the Ithaca Fire Department, Danby Volunteer Fire Company, American Legion Post 221, VFW Post 961 and the Ithaca Moose. Erik was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a model train enthusiast and loved his annual 4th of July party with family and friends.

Erik is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon L. Gaden; his sons, Erik R. Gaden and John W. Gaden (Sharon); his daughters, Bonnie S. Collins (Patrick) and Sherri L. Danenberg (Billy); his grandchildren, Robert, Darryl, Christina, Charles, Jesse, Ryan, Timothy, Anthony, Joshua, Danielle, Jacob and Haley and his great grandchildren, Jacob, Aylia, Alexander, Lindsey, Rachael, Dustin, Autum, Sierra, Branden, Zackary, Athena, Alex, Nicholas and Christopher. He is also survived by his sisters, Bonnie Pelto and Linda Maavenzadeh (Fred); his brother, Earl Gaden (Patricia), several nieces and nephews and his faithful companion, "Champ". In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Samantha, his great granddaughter, Payton and his brother-in-law, Walter.

A memorial service will be celebrated by Rev. Phil Jordan and Rev. Bernard Hogben on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11 am at the Danby Volunteer Fire Station with a reception immediately following. Friends may call prior to the service beginning at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Erik's memory may be made to the Danby Fire Company, 1780 Danby Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
