Elsa J. Ross, 86, of Lansing passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Monday December 4, 2017. She was born in Cortland, NY on July 17, 1931 to her predeceased parents Teenor and Alma Johnson of Virgil NY. She recently celebrated 56 years of marriage with her loving husband Alvin A. Ross on December 2, 2017.
Elsa and Alvin built their home and raised their family in Lansing NY after they were married in 1961. She was a wonderful homemaker and worked at Cornell University's Veterinary School once her children were school age. She was well known for incredible tasting baked goods, making countless wedding and celebratory cakes for those she loved. Family was everything to Elsa, she loved providing daycare for her grandchildren. She took pleasure in watching their activities, attending many sporting events and performances. Her favorite past time was enjoying a Friday night dinner out with her loving husband Alvin.
She dedicated her life to the Lord and when her children were young she taught VBS and Sunday school for serval years at Grace Baptist Church in Lansing. Elsa and her husband were members of Christ Chapel on Graham Rd in Ithaca, where they enjoyed many years of fellowship.
She is survived by her husband Alvin Ross, Lansing. Her surviving children: Carol Fleming and Catherine (Cathy) Benson, Lansing, Daniel Fleming (wife Pat), Newfield and son in law Jonathon (Jon) Albanese, Ithaca. She was predeceased by her daughter Alette Albanese. Her surviving siblings: Carl Johnson, Ohio, Viola (John) Storey, Virgil and Dora Taylor, Homer. Her surviving grandchildren: Julie Campagnolo (Fiancé Anthony Ciaschi), Ondrea Campagnolo, Ithaca, Chandler Benson and Makenna Benson, Locke. Her surviving step grandchildren Carson Albanese, Ithaca and Cody Albanese, California.
Her family would like to thank the caregivers at HospiCare of Ithaca for their assistance during her final days and Pastor Steven Felker for his compassion and comfort he provided during her passing.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday December 16th, 2017 at 11:00am with a light lunch to follow. This will take place at Christ Chapel, 160 Graham Rd, Ithaca NY 14850. In lieu of flowers the family wishes for donations to be made on her behalf to Christ Chapel, P.O Box 4585, Ithaca NY 14850.
