Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Policay

Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Policay, of Ithaca, passed away on August 30, 2016 at the age of 85. Elizabeth was born in Jersey City, NJ on May 9, 1931, daughter of the late Sophia and Michael Makely and was also predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Emil Thomas Policay who died in 2012.

Betty's smile was contagious. She brought joy and happiness to all she came in contact with. She served as a role model for all of us as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Betty set the bar high. She loved to read, enjoyed her music and loved to dance. Her favorite dance was the Jitterbug and we're sure she's still tapping that right foot side to side now.

Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Sr. Bernadette Michael Makely and by her four children, Thomas (Barbara), Kevin (Barbara), Mary Ann Hart (Paul) and Elizabeth Hass (Eric). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospicare of Ithaca, Clare Bridge (Brookdale) Senior Living and Groton Community Health Care Center for their care of Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church or Hospicare of Ithaca. Bangs Funeral Home is handling a private funeral se4rvice for the family.
