Elizabeth C. Deprosse

Elizabeth (Libby) deProsse {maiden name Hemsath} died peacefully at Beachtree Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing on February 16, 2018, in Ithaca New York at the age of 94. Libby was a long-time resident of Ithaca and lived at Longview for the last few years. Libby was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Gertrude Hemsath and her son C. Stuart deProsse. Libby is survived by her children Nancy deProsse and wife Flo Stern of Amherst, Massachusetts, David deProsse of Lahiana Hawaii, Stevan deProsse and wife Patty of Hanson, Massachusetts, and by her grandchildren Michael deProsse of Boston, MA, Natasha Stern of Amherst, MA, Jaye Stern of Hinsdale, NH and Katie Dugas of Pembroke MA. Libby will also be deeply missed by close family friend Moni Ginn, who Libby considered a daughter, and Moni's daughter Sarafina, who she considered her granddaughter.

Libby was born in Boston Massachusetts on June 29th 1923 and attended Cornell University. She lived in New York City after college and returned to Ithaca in 1959 where she raised her family. She worked at various science lab jobs at Cornell both in New York City and in Ithaca, and as a Librarian at Ithaca College. She served on the Board of the League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood and Women's Opportunity Center and was active in other local organizations. She loved reading, Scrabble, skiing, watercolor painting, and all things Ithaca.

A celebration of Libby's life will be held later this spring or summer.
