Elicia "Lee" Spencer

Elicia "Lee" Spencer, 66, of Ithaca, NY passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023. Born on December 31, 1956 to the late Marian Lane and Richard Armstrong in Cortland, NY.  Lee graduated from Ithaca High School in 1975.  Shortly after, she began working at Tompkins County Department of Social Services where she worked for nearly 40 years before retiring.  In 1979 Lee married the love of her life, Daniel Spencer who predeceased her in 2014 just two weeks after celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary.  Dan and Lee are now reunited where they can keep a watchful eye on their loved ones, together as they were always meant to.

Surviving Lee is her loving daughter, Katie Arthur, son-in-law Scott Arthur and grandchildren, Madison and Zachary, her “babies” who were the light of her life. She also leaves her twin sister, Elaine Mays (Bob), sister-in-law, Jan Thornton (Gerry), nephews and niece, Chris Jolly, Bryan Jolly, Mark Pierce, and Wendy Pierce Carlisle (Mark), great nieces and nephew, Peyton and Bailey Jolly and Tylor Newton. Lee leaves behind close friends, many with decades of friendships as well.  Lee was also predeceased by her mother-in-law, Julia Spencer and dog, Charlie.

A kind heart, animal lover, generous, stubborn, and comical are words that begin to describe Lee’s character.  She was passionate about her family and found joy in having company or spending time surrounded by friends and loved ones.  She was a gifted crafter and crocheter. Pieces included beautiful creations for family and friends including baby buntings and blankets, Afghans, sweaters, and various floral arrangements.  Dan and Lee will both be remembered for taking others under their wings and providing in various ways, leaving lasting impacts.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care and love provided by the staff at Hospicare who deeply touched their lives and added laughter to Lee’s last two months.

Calling hours will be held on Monday August 21st from 4PM to 6PM with funeral services held on Tuesday August 22nd at 11AM at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green Street, Ithaca.  Burial will follow the services at East Lawn Cemetery, 934 Mitchell Street, Ithaca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospicare of Tompkins County.
