Eleanor Smith Glauer

May 1, 1928 — October 29, 2018

Eleanor Smith Glauer, 90, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Kendal at Ithaca. She was born in Watkins Glen, NY on May 01, 1928 daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Watson Smith and was the widow of Raymond R. Glauer. She and Ray had had been married for 64 years prior to his passing on September 19, 2010.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Walter Glauer of Ithaca; her daughters, Janet (Marshall) Roberts of Atlantic Beach, NC and Robin (Tim) Paolangeli of Centreville, VA; her grandchildren, Margaret Roberts Sparrow (Jeff) of Greenville, NC, Brittany Paolangeli Birchenough (Adam) of Columbia, SC and Melissa Paolangeli Cohen (Paul) of Mechanisburg, PA and her great grandchildren, Tyler Mackenzie Sparrow, Eleanor Claire Sparrow, Callista Mae Birchenough, Lydia Noelle, Birchenough, Timothy August Birchenough and Benjamin Thomas Cohen. Eleanor is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Kathleen Hall. In addition to her husband and parents she was also predeceased by her brothers, Walter Smith who was killed on Iwo Jima during WW II and Robert Smith of Scottsdale, AZ.

Eleanor was a long time member of the Ithaca Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deacon, a member of their Board of Elders and was active in the Presbyterian Women’s and Pastoral Support Groups. She had also been a member of the Ithaca Women’s Group, the Ladies Union Benevolent Society and served on the Board of Directors of the Alpha House Foundation.

A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2 pm at the Kendal at Ithaca Auditorium. Interment in Frear Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
