Eleanor Bontempi Foote

Eleanor Bontempi Foote, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. She was born in Ithaca, daughter of the late Angelo and Luigia Cresci Bontempi and was the widow of Charles A. Foote who died in 1998.


Eleanor had worked in the insurance business for many years, originally with T.H. Davenport and then retired from True Insurance. She was the former president of the New York State Insurance Women's Association. An avid golfer, she was a longtime member of the Cornell University Golf Course and their women's league. She and Charlie had a winter home in Jacksonville, FL near the Tournament Player's Course where she closely followed Arnold Palmer as a member of "Arnie's Army". Eleanor was a big supporter of local athletics and was also an avid fan of the NY Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Syracuse Basketball. She was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church.



Eleanor is survived by her son, Gary W. Foote, Sr. (Suzanne); her grandchildren, Timothy Foote (Robyn), Jeffrey Foote, Stacey Foote Hair (Don), Jennifer Foote and Gary W. Foote Jr ( Jillian); her great grandchildren, Timothy, Jr., Bethany, Marianne, Justin, Matthew, Sarah, Caiden, Skarlette, Violette and Dezidario and her great great grandson, Logan and many step great grand children. She is also survived by her sister, Dora Banfield; her stepson, Richard C. Foote (Lorraine) and his children and grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was predeceased by her son, Daren; brother, William Bontempi and her sister, Elsie Lull.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Augustine Chumo on Wednesday, September 7th at 9 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with burial to follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 6th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Donations in Eleanor's memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception School.
