Elbern G. "Woody" Woodward, 85, of Ithaca, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Hospicare Residence. He was born August 20, 1928 to the late Clarence and Emma Woodward in Scranton, PA.
Woody graduated from Bloomfield Tech in NJ and then served with United State Air Force as an aircraft welder during the Korean War. He was a true patriot who loved his country. He was a faithful employee of 30 years to Ames Welding and Supply and retired in 1992. Apart from being a welder, husband and father, Woody spent time singing with the Ithaca Barbershop Chorus and was a member of the Caroline Valley Community Church.
Woody is survived by his wife of 23 years, Katherine (Keiffer); stepchildren, Kelly Gipson of UT, Dan and Mike Barron of CA, her brother, Mel and sister, Lin. He is also survived by his first wife, Shirley Woodward, mother of his devoted son, Wayne R. Woodward of Ithaca and Cindy J. Woodward his daughter of Idaho. He leaves behind his granddaughter, Jessi F. Woodward, daughter of Wayne and nephews, Ron Menner of MA, David Menner of CA as well as nieces, Nancy, Jannette and Barbara of CO. There are many other nieces and nephews also. He was predeceased by his four sisters, Christina, Phyllis, Zelpha, and Kitty.
Family and friends may call at the Bangs Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 between 5 - 6 pm, followed by a funeral service at 6 pm. Flowers or donations to the ASPCA are welcomed.
