Eileen A. O'Connell Curley

October 15, 1926 — November 30, 2017

Eileen A. Curley passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 30, 2017.

Born on October 15, 1926, in Ithaca, NY, to Julia Driscoll O'Connell and Walter C. O'Connell, Eileen Allannha was predeceased by her twin sister, Kathleen Mavourneen Webster, her older sister Anne Willis, and her younger brother Walter O'Connell, and is survived by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Eileen attended college at Cornell University and the College of St. Elizabeth. After college, Eileen boldly moved on her own to New York City. Eileen married Peter John Curley on December 26, 1964. Living in Brooklyn Heights and then settling in Pelham Manor, they raised Jane Christina and Paul Thomas Curley. Eileen and Pete spent many summers at the New York Athletic Club facilities in Pelham and Eileen was also a longtime member of the Manor Club in Pelham.

Eileen worked as an office administrator for Beaunit textiles before staying home to raise her children. Eileen made friends and memories everywhere she went, and enjoyed each phase in her life, including living later in New Rochelle, returning to Ithaca as an adult to live with her sister Kate, and finally settling in New Jersey at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains.

Eileen was a voracious reader and avid bridge player. She was a lover of science, history, and animals, especially dogs, and a supporter of many charities. She spoke often of memories from Beebe and Cayuga Lakes and enjoyed her travels to London and Ireland with her husband Pete and her sister and nieces.

Eileen was a kind, smart, and generous daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her children and grandchildren will be hosting friends and family at the Manor Club (1023 Esplanade, Pelham Manor, NY 10803) from 10 am - 1 pm on Saturday, December 16. Please come by to share memories and celebrate Eileen's wonderful life.

If you'd like, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in Eileen's memory. The family will also celebrate the life of Eileen and her siblings, in their beloved home town of Ithaca this summer.
