Edward Frederick Monroe

November 8, 1942 — January 12, 2016

Edward F. Monroe, 73, of Orange Beach, AL and formerly of Ithaca, died January 12th at his home. He was born in Ithaca on November 8, 1942, son of the late Edward and Esther Monroe.

Ed was a graduate of Ithaca High and owned and operated Empire Building Supplies from 1963 until 1986 when he sold the business to Wickes Lumber. He had been studying to be a minister in the Jehovah Witness faith, when he and his wife, Kathi moved to Orange Beach in 1994. He purchased Orange Beach Hardware in 1996 and added a U-Haul Dealership soon after. Ed loved to fly and purchased his first plane after receiving his pilot's license.

Ed is survived by his wife, Kathi, of 37 years; his children, Shannon, Tawny, Tia, Eddie Jr., Judy, Steve, Shawn, Renee, Mark, Cindy, Terry, Vickie and Doug. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Betty Jane Berggren; his brother, Roger (Connie) Hile; sister, Judy (Robert) Dean; sister-in-law, Sherry (Greg) Stevenson; brother-in-law, Robert (Theresa) Berggren and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a niece and nephew. In addition to his parents, Ed was also predeceased by his daughter, Shelly Vincent; his grandson, Michael and his father-in-law, Richard Berggren.

Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the spring. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
