Edmund John Dellert, age 80, of Ithaca, NY passed away peacefully on Monday February 6, 2023.  Born in Greeley, PA on November 17, 1942, he was a son of Edmund August and Violet (Bianchi) Dellert.  He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Karen Backer.

Ed grew up in Greeley ,PA where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father and brother.  He graduated from Hawley High School and attended the University of Scranton before receiving his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Detroit.  Ed moved to Ithaca, NY where he happily raised his family.  He was very active in his children’s sports and loved supporting them at their games.  He developed a passion for real estate and was the Vice President and General Manager of Warren Real Estate for many years until his retirement. He married the love his life, Karen Backer, in 2001 and settled into their log cabin home in the woods where he enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and building furniture and other masterpieces in his workshop, many of which have become family heirlooms.  Ed enjoyed working on his boat and venturing on many fishing trips locally and in Canada with his brother, Jerry.  Those fishing trips were where he was truly able to relax and find peace. He also loved to cook, especially for his family, and was happy when he was with his children and grandchildren.  Ed will be remembered as a man of incredible kindness, always having the right thing to say in only a few words and being a steadfast caretaker of his family.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Laura Dellert (Peter Rice) of Trumansburg, NY, Todd Dellert (Heidi) of Lanexa, VA, Gregg Dellert (Melinda) of Harvest, AL, and Mindy Dellert (Bill Hutley) of Derby, CT; stepsons, Graig Baker (Rachel Rasby) of Washington, D.C., and Patrick Baker (Kyra Coleman) of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren, Chad and Casey Mehlenbacher, Taylor and Emma Rice, Kale and Karson Dellert, Eliza Dellert, Mckayla and Brittany Hutley, Shelley Baker and Myles Baker; and brother Jerry F.
